  • Yeah, true that. I misunderstood your original comment as implying that American players weren’t good enough to be professional!

    And yeah, sports like this really do show how open most of the world is to migration, even if only of skilled workers. Vance’s ‘joke’ is a sign of how America is turning away even from that and becoming more insular. There are both positive and negative aspects to globalisation but I’m thinking that locking the doors, drawing the curtains, and gripping a gun is not a healthy response.










  • I get the impression that the pride and patriotism we see from so many Americans is largely an American thing. Most places, patriotism is entwined with right wing nationalism. I’m not an American, and I certainly wouldn’t say I’m proud on my country. I don’t own any of it or have much say in how it’s run, it’s just the place where I live - better than some places, worse than others.
