Guns are regulated. How much regulation, who gets allowed, what types of guns, and if the regulations are being enforced, those are the real questions. This warrant and shooting is a result of a law that wasn’t enforced well, as they had already broken the law once and yet someone sold/gave them guns again.
Languages change over time. As long as the intent is clear, don’t get hung up on what is and isn’t “correct”. “You’re welcome” probably was seen as extreme at some point itself.
That feels like a privacy issue, maybe related to the topic of whether or not they can force you to unlock your phone? I don’t know where the current law is on that.
I haven’t seen them in production yet, but for years I’ve heard of the idea of infrared detection in car systems to see warm bodies better at night on a screen or heads up display. There was also the idea of using that along with IR lighting and road markings to light up the road better. Like having high beams on without blinding other drivers, something that is far too common these days.

Not all Hyundais (or older cars) are the same. I get the spirit, but while my 17 year old Santa Fe has a lot of miles on it, I’d rather the assholes just stay away so I don’t have to go through the experience of a wreck, insurance, and possible new car payments on a newer vehicle that I have to relearn all the quirks. Buy a used older model if you need a machine. Models are geared towards seeking the best human response for answers, not necessarily the answers themselves. Its first answer is based on probability of autocompleting from a huge sample of data, and in versions that have a memory adjusts later responses to how well the human is accepting the answers. There is no actual processing of the answers, although that may be in the latest variations being worked on where there are components that cycle through hundreds of attempts of generations of a problem to try to verify and pick the best answers. Basically rather than spit out the first autocomplete answers, it has subprocessing to actually weed out the junk and narrow into a hopefully good result. Still not AGI, but it’s more useful than the first LLMs.
A safe bet that if it’s outside the U.S., it’s Celsius. I don’t think anyone would be alarmed about 60F even on the heat bulb chart.
More methane release overwhelms the natural breakdown agents in the atmosphere (hydroxyl radicals) so an increase bumps up the decay half life average and overall greenhouse gas effectiveness. We know there’s more methane leaks now due to both manmade sources as well as natural feedback loops from warming. Yet the IPCC still uses the older half life numbers for methane even now.
It’s talking about the annual global average, probably surface air since that’s mentioned later in the article. You’re right that it should be much more specific about what’s meant in the first sentence, not near the end.
It’s certainly a chaotic mess, but perhaps knowing the original subject of the comic tarnishes my take on it being used for other things in the same way. Analogies are often tricky.
I did comment that enforcement seemed to be part of the problem here, yes. Do the laws need to be more strict? I doubt that will fix any enforcement, since that’s the failure.
