That would make sense. I was looking for any mention of Penal employees or prison labor of some kind, but was unable to find it. I guess I was naive for thinking they just meant free employees.

I have read the entire House Report- where are you seeing that this bill creates the ability to use slave labor on fires?

I have read the bill from beginning to end- it’s literally just a bill to increase employment of the US Forest Service fire fighting team. It has a section that also makes it so the Secretary of Ag has the power to expedite the hiring process. The part that is concerning adds a stipulation about how they are able to exercise that power.

E.g.: “DHA expedites hiring by removing competitive rating and ranking, preferences for certain candidates, and requirements to consider the top three candidates.”

I am not saying this is good legislation, I am just confused by the language, and have no idea what all this will impact.

ETA: Nvm, this legislation is fucked. It allows hiring prisoners for no pay.

Your point is undermined by the fact that some of the people being rounded up are native, US-born citizens. Which means there is not really any leap to make here.

How? They’re taking people with no due process and deporting them already. Why would her being a judge make her position any different, if they are skipping due process again? This administration has shown that they don’t care about due process- they just make an accusation, and then go straight to “guilty until proven innocent.”

That’s if they give the judge due process, and don’t just immediately claim she’s guilty- kinda like they’re doing to people they’re deporting already. Not a stretch to just skip her due process at this point.

That’s just the official language. They may not kill her, but they are going to remove anyone that gets in their way is what this says to me.

Edit: The AP, as of 15 min ago has posted an update: “Dugan was taken into custody by the FBI on Friday morning on the courthouse grounds, according to U.S. Marshals Service spokesperson Brady McCarron. She appeared briefly in federal court in Milwaukee later Friday before being released from custody. Her next court appearance is May 15.”

Thank goodness, she has been released- even if she is still going on trial for a trumped-up charge.

In the loop here- it’s not sudden. She has always been disliked and reviled for her tenure as a DA, and she was only tolerated during her presidential bid because she was not Trump. If we had platformed almost anyone else, we probably would have won November.
