Yeah a problem with exploiting people’s health for profit is that the exploitation and profits are much more important than the health… And nobody gives a shit about the privacy, security, etc. of the victims.
In the long run it’s much easier and cheaper to pay a ransom, pay lawyers, etc. than to maintain a secure and modern information system in defense of the victims.

Checking out and letting things happen is primarily for people who believe in politicians. It’s for people who believe in voting. Just vote for your team every couple years and you’ll be a “good citizen”. It’s a major foundation of the state.
